Technical Report for Wind Turbine Project

Job ID: 33351653

Budget: $10 – $30 USD

Suggested steps when conducting the project:
1) Estimate the generator mass and dimensions (consider a typical offshore configuration off an industry design based on your literature survey);
2) Determine the mechanical load on the top of the tower due to the effect of wind on the blades and to the generator weight; No Computer Fluid Dynamic calculations are required for this step, instead use primitive shapes to determine the time dependent effects of wind and gravity.
3) Select the tower geometry (e.g. constant of variable cross-section) and material (e.g. concrete or metal alloy, or composite, or combination of different materials);
4) Determine the displacement boundary conditions at the connection of the tower with the foundation. These time dependent boundary conditions have to be estimated by assuming a foundation system of primitive shape.
5) Justify the element choice when building the tower model.
Remark: make the assumptions that you believe are necessary to solve the problem.
