Steel Lifting Frame Design for Modular Cabins
Budget: $25 – $50 USD
Technical Assignment – Steel Lifting Frame for Modular Cabin Construction
I am seeking a qualified mechanical / structural engineer to develop a technical solution for a steel lifting and handling frame intended for a modular cabin construction system.
Background
The cabin is designed to be constructed as prefabricated modules. Existing design documentation is available in 2D drawings. Each module is intended to be built within a temporary, reusable steel frame, which will function as the primary load-bearing structure during construction, lifting, transport, and on-site installation.
Objective
The objective of this assignment is to design a safe, robust, and practically buildable steel frame system that enables:
Construction of the cabin module within the steel frame
Crane lifting of the completed module via the steel frame, without structural load on the cabin itself
Transport and accurate placement of the module onto a concrete foundation or slab
Efficient removal of the steel frame on-site once the module is permanently positioned
Scope of Work
The assignment includes the following:
Steel Frame and Lifting Solution
Engineering and dimensioning of a reusable steel frame suitable for modular construction
The frame shall be adjustable in both length and width to accommodate varying module dimensions
Design of lifting points, load paths, stability, and tolerances in accordance with sound engineering practice
Consideration of constructability, handling, and on-site operations
Technical Description
Description of how the module is assembled within the steel frame
Explanation of the lifting, transport, and installation process
Clear solution for how the steel frame can be detached and removed after installation, without damage to the module or foundation
Illustrative Animation (Highly Desirable)
It is highly desirable that the proposed solution is accompanied by a technical animation illustrating:
Assembly of the module within the steel frame
Crane lifting and handling of the module
Placement on the foundation
Step-by-step removal of the steel frame on-site
The animation should clearly demonstrate how the engineered solution functions in practice
Required Qualifications
Mechanical or structural engineering background
Experience with steel structures, lifting systems, or temporary constructions
Experience with modular or prefabricated building systems is an advantage
Outcome
The outcome of the assignment shall be a technically sound and well-documented solution that can serve as a basis for further detailing, fabrication, and coordination with contractors, crane operators, and relevant authorities.
