3D Modelling and simulation of elastomers and magnetorheological elastomers as an example case of vibration reduction (isolator).

Job ID: 33878601

Budget: $10 – $100 USD

For our project, we performed strain sweep (at 1 Hz frequency), frequency sweep (at 1% strain) and magnetic sweep (at 1% strain and 1 Hz frequency) tests on 5 elastomers with varying levels of carbonyl iron particles. The data for all the tests is available in the form of excel files and graphs including the storage modulus, loss modulus and loss tangent.

The report was inclusive of these tests and the resulting properties were identified. However, we did not use the data available to us to perform any simulations. Some objections have been made and the clients have asked to include some application to the data.
Magnetorheological elastomers are used in vibration isolation applications due to their damping properties for example engine mountings, suspension systems, vibration isolators in LIDAR or other sensors. Due to their properties, any industrial controller can vary the magnetic field and alter the values of the material (i.e. the storage, loss modulus and loss tangent). Hence, for this project, what we need to perform simulations that can explain some application of these materials using the data available to us. A simple 3D model needs to be generated (see example here https://vibrodynamics.com/products/transport/) and simulations need to be performed using the data available. One example can be simply using the values are zero magnetic field, and at two other magnetic fields to finding the damping characteristics i.e. how much amplitude has been reduced from the vibrating surface to the base plate. We are open to ideas as the time is short and we totally understand that a huge amount of work can not be done. We just need a sufficient analysis using our data based on a few simulations demonstrating the damping properties of magnetorheological elastomer.
