Mechanical Engineering Design Project

Job ID: 36786624

Budget: $10 – $30 USD

Please answer the questions below. I've provided the values from previous steps I've already calculated.

1.Assuming the yield strength is 300 MPa with standard deviation 10 MPa, determine the probability of failure using maximum shear stress and von Mises criterion. Consider that the loading has a standard deviation of 5%. If the initial design does not meet a reliability of at least .99, consider increasing the cross-sectional dimensions of the shaft and use the new dimensions for the remainder of the problem.
2. Find the deflection of OBCA beam using singularity function method, Young's modulus is 72 GPa.
3. Consider redesiging the shaft diameter to be a smaller cross section to reduce weight, Check all of the previous steps to ensure design factor is maintained.
4. If you have the program, Solve the problem by using Altair Inspire structural analysis software. NOT REQUIRED (EXTRA CREDIT)

Values I've calculated:

T1 = 2880 N, T2 = 432 N

Rc = 1794 N, Ro = -3036 N

Maximum bending moment is @ x = 230 mm, M = -698.3 n*m

Bending stress = 263 MPa

Torsional shear stress = 57.7 MPa

Principal stresses = (1) 275 MPa & (2) -11.9 MPa

Maximum Shear Stress = 144 MPa
