Mechanical Design for Compact Telescoping Device

Job ID: 40298545

Budget: $250 – $750 USD

Project Description

I am developing a compact handheld mechanical device that transitions between two physical size configurations.

The device must:

• Collapse into a short, compact configuration
• Extend into a longer ergonomic handheld configuration
• Use a deliberate twist action to lock in both positions
• Remain durable and mechanically stable in both states
• Be compact, lightweight, and suitable for field use

The mechanism should not rely on springs or automatic deployment. The transition between positions should be manual and intentional.

The device will ultimately attach to a wearable platform, but the focus of this stage is the device body and locking mechanism, not the wearable system.

Materials under consideration include:

• aluminum
• reinforced polymer
• hybrid metal/polymer construction

Additional design considerations include:

• reliable locking in both configurations
• resistance to dirt and debris
• compact form factor
• ease of operation with gloves
• manufacturable design suitable for production

The goal of this project is to develop the mechanical concept and initial CAD model for the device body and locking system.

A confidentiality agreement (NDA) and work-for-hire intellectual property agreement will be required before detailed design information is shared.
