Engineering and Building Smart Security Lock
Budget: £5,000 – £10,000 GBP
Job Title:
Prototype Engineer – Smart Security Lock (IntruLock)
⸻
Project Overview:
We are developing IntruLock, a patent-pending smart door security system designed to physically contain intruders — not just detect them. Unlike standard alarms that only trigger a siren or send a notification, IntruLock responds instantly to a triggered window/door sensor by engaging a dual-bolt, motor-driven locking mechanism integrated discreetly into the edge of the door.
The goal is to create a fully functional prototype of the IntruLock door unit that meets security-grade and fire compliance standards. This prototype will be used for testing, demonstrations, and securing investment.
⸻
What We’re Looking For:
A skilled mechanical/electronic prototype engineer (or small team) who can:
• Design and build the door unit with internal motor/bolt mechanism
• Integrate microcontroller-based electronics (ESP32 or similar) to receive lock/unlock commands from a separate Hub (we will provide Hub details)
• Ensure low power consumption for battery operation with magnetic contact charging
• Include manual hex key override ports (internal and external) for fail-safe unlocking
• Build the unit to fit flush into the edge of a standard timber/composite door
• Incorporate security and fire compliance considerations (lock must not engage if fire alarm triggered)
⸻
Key Deliverables:
1. Working prototype of the IntruLock door unit, ready for real-world demonstration
2. CAD files / 3D models of mechanical housing & bolt system
3. Fully wired and programmed electronics capable of:
• Receiving a trigger signal from Hub
• Driving motor to lock/unlock bolts
• Reporting lock state (locked/unlocked) back to Hub
4. Magnetic contact charging system with rechargeable battery
5. Documentation of all components and wiring for replication
⸻
Skills Required:
• Mechanical engineering (lock or hardware design experience preferred)
• Embedded electronics (ESP32, motor control, Zigbee or low-power comms)
• CAD/3D modelling
• Prototyping & fabrication (metal + plastic components)
• Understanding of fire and security compliance standards (preferred)
⸻
Additional Info:
• I will provide detailed drawings, bolt measurements, and Hub integration details.
• The prototype will be tested in a standard UK door setup.
• We aim for a 6–8 week turnaround.
⸻
If you have experience building smart locks, security hardware, or IoT-enabled mechanical systems, please apply with examples of past work and a short proposal on how you would approach this build
