Consumer Electronics Actuation Expert (VCMs, etc.)

Job ID: 40218048

Budget: $80 – $150 USD

Project:
We are a looking for a very specific person, an actuation expert who has the following experience and credentials:
- Is technical. Has himself or herself designed high-performance actuators.
- The above experience must include VCMs (voice coil motors), e.g. for moving lens groups.
- You must have commercial experience in a tier-1 consumer electronics company.
An ideal person would be someone with 10+ years of experience, who now does freelance expert consulting (e.g. has retired or is semi-retired).

If you are in the 0.1% of people who fit the above description, please continue reading. If not, there is no need (we will screen out candidates who are not a fit, you will just be using up your and our time).

We have a need to evaluate smallest-possible VCM (or other actuators) for small-scale optics, things like moving lens groups in confined small spaces (think laptop or small drone camera module). The work will be flexible and part-time, interesting, and compensated hourly. To start we would anticipate a few hours a month on an advisor basis, for a short 1-3 months long project. If both us and you are interested, there will be an opportunity to expand to larger/bigger projects.

Remote work is ok. Flexible hours are ok. (We don’t care when or where you work, so long as the outcome is expert, timely, and trustworthy.) English as a 2nd language is ok, so long as you can communicate clearly in English. Technical proficiency and deep commercial in consumer-electronics are a must.

Requirements:
Significant (> 10 years) experience in design and implementation of small-scale actuation, especially VCM design for small spaces.

Deep technical background. You yourself must have designed high-performance actuators. That means most likely an engineering background. If you have an applied math or computer science background, then it must be complemented by engineering application experience.

You must have prior commercial experience, e.g. at a tier-1 consumer electronics company.

Please Send:
If the below is not included, we won’t have enough information to consider your submission:

- Resume (education and prior work experience).

- Either images of an example VCM actuator you’ve design (non-confidential) or if all your work has been confidential then some kind of verification (journal publication, etc.) that proves you have the right skill set.
