Deployable Solar Array Mechanical Design Engineering

Job ID: 40573379

Budget: ₹37,500 – ₹75,000 INR

Mechanical Design Engineer – Deployable Solar Array (Column Lifting & Panel Unfolding Mechanism) – Kinematics + Fabrication Drawings

To prove you are the right engineer, open your proposal with the answer to this: For a 180kg column rotating from 0° to 90° about a base pivot, what is the peak torque at the start of the lift, and what gas spring force (and approximate mounting angle) would you estimate to counterbalance it to under 20kg of manual effort?

CRITICAL – READ BEFORE APPLYING (Screening Filter)
This is a MECHANICAL ENGINEERING / KINEMATICS job.
We do NOT need a static canopy drawing. We need a foldable, transportable structure where:
-A central steel column rotates from horizontal (transport) to vertical (deployed) via a pivot at the base.
-6 solar panels are folded into a compact 3-sided box around the column during transport.
-Upon deployment, these panels swing outward (like a blooming flower or umbrella) to form a flat, angled solar canopy.
If you do not know how to calculate pivot torque, center of gravity shift during rotation, or gas-spring counterbalance force – DO NOT APPLY.

Project Overview:
We are EVAP Solar (Indian clean energy hardware startup). We have a fabricator on standby with laser cutters, press brakes, and welding capabilities. We need a complete manufacturing-ready design for our deployable off-grid EV charging station.

Design Constraint: We are deliberately avoiding hydraulics (to reduce cost, leakage risk, and maintenance). We need a semi-automatic / mechanical advantage system – e.g., gas springs, counterweights, manual winch + cables, or a lead-screw with a hand crank. The system must be operable by one person on-site without heavy machinery.

The goal is to deploy this in 15 minutes with 2 people and no crane.
