Corrupted MetaHuma Skeletal Mesh Extraction & Repair
Budget: $30 – $50 USD
We are looking for an experienced Unreal Engine 5 technical artist to work on a set of corrupted MetaHuman wardrobe assets (hosiery/nylons). These assets are currently failing during export and require advanced debugging, extraction, and skeletal repair.
Project Overview
We have 4 custom .uasset wardrobe files built for MetaHuman female templates. When attempting to export via UE5’s native FBX exporter, the engine crashes with an error (“Array index out of bounds”), likely due to corrupted skeletal data or missing bone arrays from the original source.
We need a specialist who can bypass the standard editor workflow and recover usable data.
Scope of Work
1. Data Extraction (Critical)
- Use tools such as FModel, UModel, or equivalent UE datamining tools
- Extract raw geometry, skeleton hierarchy, and original skin weights directly from the `.uasset` files
- Work outside the UE5 editor due to export instability and crashes
2. Skeletal Repair & Cleanup
- Fix broken bone hierarchies and missing bone/vertex weight data
- Resolve issues causing the UE5 exporter crash
- Ensure clean skeletal structure suitable for re-import
3. MetaHuman Template Identification
- Analyze extracted data to determine correct MetaHuman female body templates
(e.g., `f_med_nrw`, `f_tal_unw`, `f_srt_ovw`, etc.)
- Map each asset to the correct body type
- Ensure 1:1 skin weight compatibility with no clipping in animation
Final Deliverables
- 4 fully repaired and clean `.fbx` skeletal mesh files
- Each file must import cleanly into UE5 without errors or crashes
- Assets must be ready for direct use with MetaHuman Blueprints
- Correct body type must be identified and included in filename, e.g.:
`Nylons_f_med_nrw.fbx`
