The Development of a Regenerative Braking Algorithm for An Electric Racing Vehicle
Budget: ₹12,500 – ₹37,500 INR
One method of increasing the electrical efficiency of an electric vehicle is the use of regenerative braking,
whereby a portion of the kinetic energy possessed by the vehicle during motion is captured and converted into electrical energy and
used to replenish the battery pack.
A common issue with regenerative braking systems is that they often cannot provide enough braking force to allow the
vehicle to successfully complete some manoeuvres. A supplementary mechanical braking system is therefore needed to provide additional braking force.
This project focusses on the development of a regenerative braking system for an electric racing car, which is intended to compete in the Formula Student competition.
This project will involve the selection of suitable hardware and the development of a suitable brake control algorithm to synchronise the regenerative
and mechanical braking systems to maximise the yield of the regenerative braking system.
Computer software such as MATLAB/Simulink and IPG Carmaker may be used in the development of this system.
