Solar-Powered Hydrogen Production Control Comparison

Job ID: 39097625

Budget: $10 – $30 USD

Project Title:
Control of a Solar-Powered IBC Converter for Hydrogen Production with Control Strategy Comparison

1. Project Context and Objective
The main objective of this project is to write a conference paper demonstrating the importance of controlling a DC-DC converter in hydrogen production, using a solar-powered Interleaved Buck Converter (IBC). Three control strategies will be implemented: a classical PI control and two other more efficient and recently studied control methods from the literature. The project will include the modeling of the solar source, the converter, and the electrolyzer, as well as the implementation of control schemes and their simulation on MATLAB Simulink 2023a. The obtained results will be compared using graphs to draw conclusions on the performance of each control method.

2. Specifications

2.1. Expected Deliverables
Literature review on various advanced control strategies for DC-DC converters, particularly the most recent and high-performance methods applied to solar-powered IBC converters.
Mathematical and electrical modeling of the solar source, the solar-powered IBC converter, and the electrolyzer. The choice of the controlled variable—output current, voltage, or both—should be justified.
Implementation of control schemes on MATLAB Simulink 2023a:
Classical PI control
Two other advanced control strategies to be determined based on the state of the art.
Simulation of different control strategies and comparison of results in terms of:
Output voltage stability
Dynamic response
Robustness against load and input voltage variations
Comparative analysis and discussion of results presented in graphical form.
Conference paper explaining the methodology, models used, implementation of control strategies, obtained results, and their interpretation.
2.2. Technical Requirements
Software and programming language: MATLAB Simulink 2023a
Detailed modeling of the solar-powered IBC converter and the electrolyzer
Model validation through simulation tests
Performance comparison using clear metrics (steady-state error, response time, overshoot, etc.)
Delivery of source files (MATLAB/Simulink) with documentation explaining each used block
