POD proper orthogonal decompositions for fluid mechanics

I have already setup my MATLAB code of the POD and i want to compare or relate it the POD equations found here https://backend.orbit.dtu.dk/ws/portalfiles/portal/3114393/fulltext.pdf - I am still confused about the steps of the POD methods
