Fetal Monitoring: Monitoring Uterine Contractions

Description of the assignment and the student's personal contribution (excluding the research part):
Data available in the Physiobank medical database system will be utilized. A software (SW) system for analyzing maternal/fetal signals will be implemented in the Matlab programming environment to assess the condition of the fetus/mother. Algorithms for extracting information about the fetus's condition and the evolution of uterine contractions from abdominal signals will be implemented. Algorithms for analyzing maternal/fetal signals in the time, frequency, and time-frequency domains will be developed. The relevance of the extracted parameters in monitoring the fetus's condition and contractions will be analyzed. The aim is to prevent spontaneous abortions based on the analysis of signals from non-invasive measurements (abdominal signals), but results can also be correlated with those obtained from invasive measurement signal analysis for validating the proposed algorithms.
