Automatic License Plate recognition

The project will be to recognize Australian or to be exact Western Australia's license plate and able to detect the characters and numbers show. My task is to improve the reference code as i provide in the files uploaded named 'alpr.m'. The problem with the reference code is that it is not that accurate and can't detect the license plate when the image is in side angled. All the images was taken in high resolution and in a daytime. Im not after a very complicated codes and if possible use only image processing technique. I will provide the files for all the images from front view and 45 degree side angle.
