I need help with deriving a mathematical formula in a paper published by Dr Ferdinand Hurter in 1897. My maths is too rusty nowadays, especially in calculus, and I'm having trouble deriving some of the steps required for a full proof of a particular mathematical formula. Some of the notation in the paper looks dodgy and so you need to be prepared for inconsistencies.
