I’m refining an established plastic-recycling line and need a materials scientist who can push the quality of the output to match—or beat—virgin-grade resin. The current process runs reliably, yet the pellets still fall short on mechanical strength, color consistency, and odor. Your brief is to examine what we already do and design targeted adjustments that translate into measurable quality gains without compromising throughput.
Here’s how I picture the assignment unfolding:
• Review the existing flow (sorting, washing, extrusion, pelletizing) through the documentation I’ll share and a remote walkthrough of the plant.
• Identify the chemical or process-parameter changes most likely to lift tensile strength, impact resistance, and optical clarity. I’m particularly interested in compatibilizers, chain extenders, or novel solid-state post-treatments, but I’m open to other data-driven ideas.
• Specify any lab tests we should run, interpret the results, and convert them into actionable process tweaks.
• Deliver a concise improvement plan and, if possible, a pilot protocol we can trial on a small batch.
I’ll supply all current QA data and can arrange new ASTM D638, MFI, and FTIR tests as needed. Let me know what additional information or samples you require. Once we validate the recommendations, I’d like to keep collaborating on scaling them to full production.
