Environmental/Civil Engineering – DEM Simulation (PFC2D / Equivalent)

I am seeking an experienced freelancer with expertise in Discrete Element Method (DEM) modelling to support a geotechnical engineering project.

The task involves simulating the packing behaviour of granular materials (crushed waste glass and natural sand) to determine maximum and minimum void ratios (e_max and e_min). This includes generating particle assemblies based on a given particle size distribution (PSD), performing loose and dense packing simulations, and extracting void ratio results for comparison with existing experimental data.

Scope of work:

Build a 2D granular model (PFC2D or equivalent DEM software)

Simulate loose packing (e_max) and dense packing (e_min)

Apply appropriate boundary conditions and calibration

Compute void ratio from simulation outputs

Provide clear data/results for validation (no full report required)

Requirements:

Strong experience in DEM (PFC2D preferred, or equivalent)

Understanding of granular mechanics and packing behaviour

Familiarity with void ratio calculation and calibration

This is a short-term project focused on the data/simulation component only, with existing experimental data provided for validation.
