About Worcester Mela

Worcester Mela is a community-led charity celebrating South Asian culture through arts, music, food and shared experiences. We exist to bring people together, amplify underrepresented voices and create joyful, inclusive cultural spaces in Worcester and beyond.

As we approach South Asian Heritage Month in July 2026, we’re looking for a Freelance Marketing Manager to take ownership of our marketing activity and help us reach more local people – especially those who might want to take part, volunteer or collaborate.

The Role

You’ll work closely with our small team, trustees, artists, and partners. This is a hands-on role with real autonomy, focused on participation, visibility and community connection.

Key responsibilities include:

Managing Worcester Mela’s social media channels
Creating and scheduling engaging content (copy and content across social media, website, reels/stories)
Promoting activities, events and participation opportunities
Supporting stakeholder and community outreach (local groups, artists, partners)
Helping shape clear, welcoming messaging that speaks to local audiences
Being available to collaborate with the team during key moments and events
Managing volunteers

About You

We’re looking for someone who is:

An experienced marketing or communications professional (freelance or portfolio background welcome)
Confident managing social media end-to-end
Comfortable working independently but enjoys being part of a team
Able to manage volunteers/apprentices
Passionate about arts, culture and community-led projects
Organised, proactive and culturally aware

Desirable (but not essential):

Lived or cultural connection to South Asian communities
Experience working with charities, festivals or grassroots arts projects
Based in or near Worcester

Worcester Mela is a South Asian-focused charity, and we warmly welcome applicants from South Asian backgrounds. We are, however, open to candidates of all backgrounds who share our values and enthusiasm for the work.

Why Work With Us

Be part of a meaningful, joyful cultural project
Flexible freelance working
A chance to shape how a community charity shows up publicly
Real impact — helping people feel invited, included and represented
