I want to know how much it would cost to hire a market researcher

I am considering starting a small whisky tasting business and would like to know what kind of competition I would be up against, both locally and nationally. I don't foresee this being a long project, I just need to know whether I am going to be entering into a flooded market and how I can make my own company more niche.
