Seeking Industrial Designer/Mechanical Engineer for Adjustable Vape Holder Mechanism in Plush Toy
Budget: $750 – $1,500 USD
We are developing a unique plush toy featuring an internal pocket designed to hold a vape device. Our current prototype uses a simple elastic pocket, which unfortunately only fits a very limited range of vape sizes and doesn't provide a secure hold for all types.
We need an experienced designer or engineer to develop a compact, internal mechanism that can be integrated into the plushie. This mechanism must be able to:
1. Accommodate Various Vape Sizes: Securely hold different types of vapes, including common cylindrical pen styles, smaller box mods, and pod systems (you could specify approximate dimension ranges if you know them, e.g., diameters from X to Y mm, heights up to Z mm).
2. Provide a Snug & Secure Fit: The mechanism should grip the vape firmly enough to prevent it from easily falling out or rattling around excessively inside the plushie pocket.
3. Be Compact & Integratable: The entire mechanism needs to be small and designed in a way that it can realistically be sewn or inserted into the fabric pocket/cavity of a plush toy without being overly bulky or hard.
4. Be Reasonably Durable: The mechanism should withstand regular use.
Scope of Work & Deliverables:
1. Conceptualization and design of several potential mechanisms.
2. Selection and refinement of the most promising concept.
3. Detailed 3D CAD models (e.g., STEP or STL files) of the final mechanism design, suitable for prototyping (e.g., 3D printing) and potentially later manufacturing.
4. Recommendations for suitable materials (considering factors like durability, cost, and safety).
5. Instructions or design considerations for integrating the mechanism into the plushie pocket.
6. Design files for a 3D printable prototype.
Required Skills & Experience:
1. Proven experience in Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, or Physical Product Design.
2. Strong proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Onshape, etc.).
3. Demonstrated experience designing small mechanisms, adjustable holders, or similar consumer product components.
4. Understanding of materials and basic manufacturing processes (like injection molding, 3D printing).
5. Creative problem-solving skills.
5. Portfolio showcasing relevant past projects is essential.
