Magento Developer for auto save product

I need a modification to the script I have. Whats happening is that i have many duplicate products and as a result the script crashes saying that the "URL key specified already exists" and then ends. I then need to delete the product it had trouble with and start the script from that point. Is it possible for the script to detect that the URL key exists and then either delete the current duplicate (keep the smaller magento product id) or to add a "-duplicate" in the URL key (whichever is easier and less time consuming for you. Which ever is easier - the goal is to mark or remove the higher duplicate id's as they are the duplicates i've been manually doing this and i still have 75k products to go.
