AI Multi-Sensor Safety Device Design
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
I have an early-stage concept for a compact home-safety unit that merges four traditional sensors—smoke, carbon monoxide, natural gas, and heat—with a miniature AI camera. The vision component should run light-weight computer-vision models capable of spotting visible smoke, open flame, or human presence directly on the device.
On the connectivity side, the companion mobile app must be able to push instant alerts, trigger automatic calls to my chosen emergency contacts, and let me check real-time status from anywhere. Low-latency Wi-Fi or BLE is acceptable as long as the experience feels seamless.
Because I’m still in the idea/concept phase, I need solid guidance on industrial design, electronics architecture, and early prototyping. A slim, ceiling-mounted form factor that can blend into modern interiors is preferred, but I’m open to creative proposals that keep the footprint small and the sensor array unobstructed. Energy efficiency, sensor cross-interference mitigation, and safe heat dissipation are vital considerations.
Deliverables I expect at this stage:
• High-fidelity CAD renders and an exploded view showing sensor placement and airflow paths
• Preliminary bill of materials covering sensing elements, MCU, camera module, power management, and connectivity chipset
• Proof-of-concept enclosure (3D-printed or CNC) plus a basic electronics mock-up that validates multi-sensor readings and AI inference locally
• Firmware outline detailing how sensor data and camera frames flow to the app, with recommendations for TensorFlow Lite, Edge Impulse, or similar tools
• An interaction map for the mobile app, highlighting alert logic, auto-dial workflow, and live monitoring screens
If the concept checks out, there will be follow-on work for full prototype refinement and DFM. Let’s create a device that keeps homes safer through intelligent, all-in-one detection.
