My goal is to set up a reliable Local Area Network in my home that can comfortably handle more than 20 connected devices—streaming-ready TVs, laptops, phones, smart speakers, security cameras, and IoT appliances all running at once. I already have basic consumer-grade Wi-Fi, but congestion, coverage gaps, and occasional drop-outs are becoming a headache.

What I need is a complete, future-proof LAN blueprint: clear guidance on the physical layout, recommended gigabit switches, access points, cabling choices (Cat6 vs Cat6a), and a logical IP scheme that keeps everything tidy. I also want best-practice advice on network segmentation (VLANs for guests and smart-home devices), firewall rules, and simple monitoring so I can spot bottlenecks before they turn into problems. Everything must be written for a home user who is comfortable following technical instructions but doesn’t work in IT day-to-day.
