centos server small error

hello,
we have a centos 7 based dedicated server where we have an emailing application hosted. we tried updating the application but it needs php 7.4 minimum our server had php 7.2 we updated the version but now we are getting this error : ERROR: The requested PHP Mbstring extension is missing from your system.
can someone help us get the applciation up and running.
