add html to digitalocean droplet

I have a digital ocean droplet which I have installed docker on and installed an application which runs from the root directory. I want to add a sub domain and new website to the subdomain, but I am having trouble - have created the sub domain and created var/www/html/sub-domain/ for hosting the html files but not working. Need some assistance to get it setup correctly.
