Web App for Vehicle Access Control (Server in Raspberry Pi 5)

Job ID: 39573288

Budget: $30 – $250 USD

We need a full-stack developer to build a zero-hassle web application for non-technical users, hosted on a Raspberry Pi 5 (Raspberry Pi OS 64-bit). The app must interact with an existing MySQL/MariaDB database and, optionally, with an MQTT EMQX broker.

Core Features:

Plate look-up – read license plates from the database and display them.

Gate authorization – if a plate exists, issue an open command (GPIO or MQTT topic out/xxx/raspberrypi).

Event logging – write entry/exit timestamps to the database.

Friendly vehicle enrollment – add or edit records through a simple form.

Integrated face capture – when creating or updating a record, the app must trigger the Pi’s camera (or a USB/webcam connected to it), capture the driver’s face photo, and store the image in the database alongside the vehicle data.

Per-vehicle data stored:
Face photo
First name + two last names
License plate
Vehicle type & color
Entry/exit history

database:
1. vehicle type (category)
2. vehicle color
3. Vehicle plates
4. Vehicle holder (surname and two family names)
5. Image (photography of the holder of the holder) from another device (for example a cell phone or tablet)
6. Entrance and exit records of the vehicle.

These will be stored in the database MySQL MARIADB and EMQX MQTT server too.

The web UI must be responsive so it can be used comfortably from tablets, smartphones, or desktop browsers.

User Management:

Role Permissions:
Superuser (developer) Introduce new record types/tables in MySQL (e.g., future user categories).
Administrator (1 seat) Delete existing records; cannot modify database structure.
Operational users (up to 10) Create new records; cannot delete records or alter structure.

Each role will have clearly separated privileges.

Technical Requirements:
Responsive front end (React, Vue, Angular, or a similarly lightweight framework).

Back end in Python, Node.js, or equivalent, exposing a REST API to MySQL/MariaDB and EMQX, MQTT.

Authentication & role-based access control.

Camera integration (in tablet, cell phone or desktop) for face capture and store in database

Delivery options (choose one):

Docker image ready to deploy on the Pi 5.

Packaged source files + install scripts (no SD-card image required).

Fully documented code and automated deployment scripts.

Nice-to-haves

CSV/Excel export of logs.

Clean, accessible UI/UX design.

Deliverables:
Complete source code + Dockerfile or install scripts.

Step-by-step install & user guide for non-technical staff.

Final tests on a physical Raspberry Pi 5.

Signed IP assignment and NDA upon delivery.

Proposal Guidelines
Include:

Concise work plan and tech stack.

Examples of similar projects. A visual demo of something similar, would be much appreciated.

Suggested timeline: 7 calendar days after award, with on-device verification.
