Walk me through to install a tiny open source project on Lubuntu, LinuxLite, and Ubuntu.

I have three laptops, each running a different flavour of Linux (cannot use the same LInux on all of them for for various reasons): Lubuntu, LinuxLite, and Ubuntu. I need someone to walk me through installing a tiny open source project on it.
