Troubleshoot why website down on VPS

I am looking for a skilled freelancer who can help troubleshoot and resolve the issue with my website being down on my VPS. The website is currently displaying an "Error establishing a database connection" message when accessed.
Requirements:
- Strong experience in troubleshooting and resolving website issues on VPS
- Proficient in identifying and resolving database connection errors
- Familiarity with server configurations and troubleshooting
Details:
- We have not made any recent changes or updates to the website or server configuration.
- We contacted support several times over the past 24 hours.
- First they increased a setting which brought the site up but forms were not working. They said they will work shortly but never did.
- Then the site started to display in a wonky way. The header was displaying wrong. They advised to restore the site to our back up of October 17. They said it would take 4 hours. After a while, we saw the error message: "Error establishing a database connection"
- So I contacted Support asking them why we have that error now. They said our disk space is full because of too many back ups so we should delete the back up of Oct 1 and 15 and only keep the one on October `17. The site would be back up in maximum 4 hours. That was 12 hours ago.
- This morning, I contact them and ask them why the same error message remains. They told me that support will have it fixed and contact me in 24 hours.
I need you the programmer to figure out a few things:
- why is our diskspace full when we have such a small website.
- We changed the settings so we have a website backup done once a month as sopposed to daily and weekly. But we want to know if we can delete all the old ones and only keep the one from Oct 17. The hosting company said I need to know linux to do that and they can't do it on their end. Their support agreed to delete the back ups of Oct 1 and 15 but I can't tell if they did it or not.
- if there is a way to fix the issue without having to wait for their support.
