Squid Proxy Setup for Office LAN Caching & Speed Optimization
Project Description:
We are looking for an experienced Linux System Administrator or DevOps Engineer to set up and configure a Squid Proxy server for our office LAN.
The primary goal is to speed up access to a government website used regularly by multiple users in our office:

Key Requirements:
Set up Squid Proxy server on Ubuntu Server 22.04 LTS
Enable caching of static content (images, JS, CSS, fonts, etc.)
Optimize performance for multiple desktop users accessing the site
Enable compression (gzip/brotli where applicable)
Optional: Configure SSL interception (SSL Bump) to allow caching of HTTPS content (we are open to guidance on this)
Configure access controls to restrict proxy usage to LAN users only
Secure the proxy server (firewall, access logs, resource limits)
Provide basic documentation for maintenance and troubleshooting
Environment:
Office LAN with 10-15 desktop users
Internet broadband connection
Proxy server will have static internal IP (e.g., 192.168.1.10)
Ubuntu Server 22.04 LTS (can be installed fresh)
Deliverables:
Fully functioning and tested Squid Proxy server
All configuration files
Installation and maintenance documentation
Quick troubleshooting guide for office IT staff
Ideal Candidate Should Have:
Strong experience with Squid Proxy configuration
Linux server administration experience (Ubuntu/Debian preferred)
Familiarity with SSL interception, certificates management, and HTTPS caching
Experience with LAN security and firewall configuration
Ability to explain setup in simple terms for handover
Additional Notes:
This is a one-time setup, but we may need follow-up support.
Priority will be given to candidates who have done similar projects before.
We prefer remote setup via SSH or other secure remote access.
Timeline:
Looking to complete setup within 3-5 days after hiring.
