Set up remote access to a NAS

We recently installed a NAS in the office and need to set up a VPN to enable us to access the NAS from outside the office network, as a mapped drive. I would also like to explore the possibility of using the NAS as a mail server. The NAS is a Synology unit. I prefer to work with someone in a close timezone as out IT needs might be ongoing.
