The Role
We are seeking an experienced On-Premises Infrastructure Engineer to design, implement, and maintain our critical on-premises server and database infrastructure. This is a hands-on role where you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of our physical server environment, from initial setup and configuration to ongoing security and performance optimisation.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure Design: Work closely with our teams to visually architect server and database layouts using tools like Miro, ensuring a clear and scalable design.
Server Setup & Configuration: Install, configure, and maintain Linux-based on-premises servers, ensuring optimal performance and stability.
Security Implementation: Implement robust security measures for our on-premises infrastructure, including firewalls, intrusion detection, and access controls.
Authentication & Authorisation: Design and enforce secure authentication and authorisation mechanisms across all on-premises systems and services.
Database Integration: Assist in the configuration and secure integration of databases within the on-premises environment.
Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all infrastructure configurations, processes, and security protocols.
Troubleshooting & Support: Provide expert-level support for on-premises infrastructure issues, ensuring high availability and minimal downtime.
Best Practices: Research and implement industry best practices for on-premises server management, security, and scalability.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Proven experience in setting up, configuring, and managing on-premises Linux servers (e.g., Ubuntu, CentOS, Red Hat).
Strong understanding of network protocols, security principles, and best practices for on-premises environments.
Experience with visual diagramming tools (e.g., Miro, Lucidchart) for infrastructure architecture.
Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python) for automation.
Familiarity with database administration concepts and secure integration (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL).
Knowledge of authentication protocols (e.g., LDAP, SAML, OAuth) and identity management solutions.
Experience with server hardening techniques and vulnerability management.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
Nice-to-Have Skills
Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) in an on-premises context.
Familiarity with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
Knowledge of virtualisation technologies (e.g., VMware, Proxmox).
