OpenNebula Expert for Private/Hybrid Cloud
Budget: ₹37,500 – ₹75,000 INR
We are engaging a freelance OpenNebula expert to build and operate a scalable private/hybrid cloud environment. The scope includes initial assessment, deployment, integration with storage/networking, automation, monitoring, and a handover.
B. Detailed Scope
Assessment & Planning
Audit existing infrastructure (if any).
Define architecture (controllers, hypervisors, storage, network layout).
Recommend high availability and multi-tenant strategy.
Deployment
Install OpenNebula (controller and compute nodes).
Configure virtualization backend (KVM/Xen) on hypervisors.
Integrate Ceph or other storage backend with OpenNebula.
Set up networking: bridges, VLANs, security policies.
Configure authentication/authorization (e.g., LDAP/SSO).
Automation & Templates
Create reusable VM templates.
Automate lifecycle (provision, scale, decommission) via scripts or OpenNebula features.
Optionally integrate with CI/CD or external APIs.
Operationalization
Set up monitoring, logging, and alerting (e.g., health of hosts, storage usage).
Implement backup/restore procedures for VM images.
Define and implement upgrade/migration process.
Security & Hardening
Apply best practices (SSH hardening, firewall rules, role separation).
Secure API endpoints and credentials.
Documentation & Handover
Architecture diagrams.
Installation and configuration guides.
Runbooks for common operations and incident response.
Training session with in-house team.
C. Required Freelancer Profile
3+ years in cloud infrastructure, with at least 1+ year focused on OpenNebula.
Demonstrated implementations of OpenNebula with storage (Ceph) and networking.
Strong Linux sysadmin skills.
Experience with automation (Python/Bash).
Clear communicator and able to produce crisp documentation.
D. Engagement Terms
Duration: e.g., 4–8 weeks initial engagement + optional ongoing support.
Billing: Hourly rate or fixed milestones (define deliverables per milestone).
Availability: Overlap with [your time zone/preferred working hours].
Deliverables tied to acceptance criteria.
E. Evaluation / Sample Technical Task
Provide a small paid test such as:
“Set up a mini OpenNebula lab with 1 controller and 2 hypervisors using Ceph as shared storage. Provision a VM from a template and demonstrate scaling it.”
Ask for a short write-up: how HA would be achieved, and how you’d recover from a failed compute node.
