Nginx FTP Lock out, need to fix (READ DETAILS)

I have a NGINX server that runs (via digitalOcean), I need to access a specific file in the system (template file) there is a very specific error in the php in /var/www/sitename/index.php that just needs to be removed, but the error that is occurring is stopping the server from allowing ftp access.

I am frustrated, and I hope there is something I am overlooking that will make this a 10 minutes task for someone out there.
