Linux Server Migration and Configuration Expert

Job ID: 39297605

Budget: $30 – $250 USD

We are looking for an experienced Linux server administrator/developer with proven expertise in Nginx, PHP‑FPM, WordPress migrations, and email/server configurations. We have an old server with approximately 130GB of data that houses multiple websites which need to be thoroughly reviewed together with me. Our goal is to migrate all sites to our new DigitalOcean server. Each website will be provided its own URL to serve as a portfolio of our work. Your tasks will include ensuring that SSL certificates are configured correctly and that all domains resolve and function as expected. In addition, you will set up email services on the new server—including migrating any necessary email data from the old server—so that email accounts are secure, properly whitelisted, and fully operational.

Project Tasks:
1. Data Review & Planning:
• Audit the existing 130GB of data on the old server together with me.
• Identify and catalog the various websites and content that must be migrated.
2. Website Migration & Configuration:
• Migrate each website to the new DigitalOcean server.
• Assign each site its own URL as part of a portfolio display.
• Ensure that each website’s WordPress configuration (including the wp-config.php file) is updated with the correct database credentials, file paths, and settings.
• Verify that file and directory permissions are set appropriately (directories to 755, files to 644, owned by the web server user).
3. Nginx & SSL Setup:
• Configure and test Nginx virtual hosts for each domain, ensuring they point to the correct website folder.
• Set up and enforce SSL certificates on all sites.
4. Email System Configuration:
• Set up email services on the new server.
• Migrate and configure any existing email data from the old server.
• Ensure that email accounts are secure, properly whitelisted, and that outgoing/incoming email services function flawlessly.
5. Final Testing & Optimization:
• Test each website’s front end and administrative area.
• Confirm domain resolution, SSL functionality, and email performance.
• Provide documentation of any changes made and recommendations for future maintenance.

Duration and Payment:
This task is expected to be completed within 1–3 days on a fixed-price basis.

Requirements:
• Proven experience with Linux server administration on DigitalOcean (or similar cloud environments).
• Expert-level knowledge of Nginx, PHP‑FPM, and WordPress multisite migrations.
• Hands‑on experience with email system setup and troubleshooting (Postfix, Dovecot, etc.).
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively, documenting changes clearly.
• Availability to review the existing data on the old server and plan the migration in detail.

How to Apply:
Please provide a brief overview of your relevant experience, examples of similar projects you have completed, and confirm that you can start immediately. We look forward to speaking with you to walk through the old server’s content and plan an orderly migration of our websites and email services.
