Custom Ubuntu Distribution with Presets -- 2
Budget: ₹1,500 – ₹12,500 INR
I need an Ubuntu-based distribution that behaves much like a Kasm workspace image but ships with my own presets baked in. The final result should be delivered both as an ISO (for bare-metal or VM installs) and as a ready-to-run Docker image so I can spin up identical workspaces on demand.
Core requirements
• Base: latest LTS Ubuntu
• Desktop: GNOME, trimmed to essentials so the image stays lean
• Security: hardened defaults, pre-configured firewall, minimal services, confined apps where practical (AppArmor or similar)
• Network: static and DHCP profiles ready, predefined DNS, proxy support, and a scriptable way to toggle them
• UI tweaks: custom theme, branded wallpaper, default apps removed/added per my list (I’ll supply it once we start)
Acceptance criteria
1. ISO boots and installs without manual hacks, producing a fully configured system that matches the Docker container.
2. Docker image builds reproducibly from a Dockerfile and starts with the same user interface and settings.
3. All custom security and network settings survive reboot/container restart.
4. Clear build scripts and documentation so I can regenerate or update the distro myself.
Tools you’re comfortable with—live-build, Packer, cloud-init, Ansible, Docker BuildKit, etc.—are welcome as long as the process remains transparent in the repo you deliver.
Let’s keep communication tight: once you outline your build approach and timeline, I’ll supply the exact package list, UI assets, and any additional security policies.
