Create sql backup

Please copy the databases for my website which is running a forum. I plan to move the website to another server, so for now I just need to get everything downloaded. I can download the files myself using FTP, but I just need you to help download the SQL databases. The website is on a VPS running Linux. There should be shell access, but I have never used that feature and don't know how.There is no control panel installed.
