BigBlueButton Installation and Integration EXPERT (ISOLATED Env Experience)

We are seeking an experienced BigBlueButton (BBB) consultant to execute a one-time deployment of the platform in a fully air-gapped, on-premise Ubuntu-based environment. The goal is to install and configure BBB on a virtual machine (VM), integrate it with a locally hosted Moodle instance, and ensure full functionality without external internet access.

This role also involves generating necessary scripts and detailed documentation to support future re-deployments, maintenance, and recovery.

Responsibilities:

Install and configure BigBlueButton on a VM running Ubuntu

Integrate BBB with Moodle (already installed on the same Ubuntu server)

Prepare the BBB VM image for offline deployment in an air-gapped network

Implement manual authentication method for BBB-Moodle integration

Configure local DNS resolution to allow for fully qualified domain names (FQDN) within the isolated environment

Generate and install a self-signed root SSL certificate for secure connections

Set up reverse proxy and ensure compatibility with FreeSWITCH

Provide full documentation and deployment/update scripts

Troubleshoot and validate functionality in offline mode

Provide server hardware optimization and recommendations if needed

Required Skills and Experience:

Extensive hands-on experience with BigBlueButton installation and troubleshooting

Solid background in Linux administration, particularly Ubuntu

Proven experience integrating BBB with Moodle

Ability to configure manual authentication

Deep understanding of network isolation and VM image migration

Familiarity with DNS resolution setup within closed environments

Experience creating and deploying SSL root certificates

Expertise in FreeSWITCH and reverse proxy configuration

Ability to generate deployment and recovery documentation/scripts

What is your approach if port 80 is blocked? Can you still make BBB function?

How many years of experience do you have working with BigBlueButton?

Have you previously integrated BBB with Moodle?

How do you typically debug BBB-Moodle integration issues?

What is your experience configuring TURN servers for BBB?

Can you create and manage virtual machines and install BBB on them?

Have you set up local DNS servers for hostname resolution in offline environments?

Can you walk us through your process of creating a root SSL certificate and configuring reverse proxy with FreeSWITCH?

Experience deploying in government, military, or other highly restricted networks

Prior work involving offline educational software systems
