Is low cost for probate possible?

I am the only child in need of help getting my mothers house through probate. I have gotten the appraisal and run the necessary ad in the newspaper. I went to court only to have the acting judge tell me to get legal representation. I have enough money to pay off the loan mom had taken out on the house but not much more as I am told that a Lawyer can charge up to 10% of the appraised value. I have been quoted $10,000. I don't have that but I need to get the probate done. can you help me?
