We are searching for an experienced lawyer who can provide insights to a detail-oriented curriculum designer. In this role, you will identify the skills needed to bridge the gap between theoretical study and practicing of the law. You will advise the curriculum developer as they create and organize coursework for newly hired lawyers. The specific focus will be on General File Needs.

Your experience mentoring new or developing lawyers, and managing general file needs and administrative work enable you outline the skills newly graduated lawyers need to quickly master in a firm, once hired. You will be aware of a current, common baseline of academic teachings, which must be translated into skills via experience.
To be successful as the Subject Matter Expert for General File Work, you should understand the workflow of a file in a law firm from file opening to close, and be prepared to collaborate with a wide range of professionals. Outstanding candidates have strong backgrounds mentoring new lawyers, a deep understanding of a firm’s operational and legal practice workflows, and excellent communication skills.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Define the practical training requirements needed to address crucial skill-gaps with new lawyers entering the practice of law. A concentration on general file work, such as opening files, closing files, proper scoping during client intake, balancing a case load, managing cases from start to finish, protecting boundaries, execute against a critical date structure to meet deadlines, managing client communications, organized file structure, document prep, Etc.
• Provide real world examples which align with trends impacting the legal landscape, legal software, and with shifting business and learner priorities.
• Identify the milestones required to attain competency of said skills
• Advise on ways to refine content to optimize learning
• Advise on feasible timeframes to achieve the goals and objectives outlined in the curriculum.
• Analyze feedback and test assessments to gauge the effectiveness of curriculum.
• Review scripts, audio and video for training offerings
• Proof and suggest revisions for job aids, self-service articles, infographics, training agendas, learner manuals, PowerPoint slides, and other learning content.
Additional Responsibilities:
• Act as Voice of the Customer by considering both the needs of a hiring firm, and the needs of a newly hired recent graduate.
• Work with Curriculum Developers to provide context to training scenarios.
• Other duties as assigned.
What we would like for you to have:
Required:
• Minimum of 10+ years’ experience as a lawyer
• Proven track record of managing general file work needs for different types of law practices
• Familiar with commonly used legal software solutions
• Consulting on trends impacting the legal landscape, legal software, and with shifting business and learner priorities.
• Ability to manage complex projects with multiple deliverables and tight timelines.
• A demonstrated passion for excellence; attention to detail is critical to success.
Desired:
• Deep understanding of legal practice workflows
• Strong understanding of accounting concepts: i.e. General Ledger, Accounts Payable, and Accounts Receivable. Knowledge of PCLaw and Time Matters products and customers (or other practice management software).
• Experienced with PCLaw, Time Matters, or LEAP
• Experience with the practical application of adult learning theories
