I moved into this house in Celaya GTO on November 28, 2023.
There was leaking and other issues with all 3 bathrooms (2 1/2) from day one. That was the faucets and toilets. I told them about them and at first they got their handyman to fix it, but he made things worse.
Then the grandfather who is also a handyman tried to fix it, but he didn't know what he was doing and then the toilets wouldn't flush.
I messaged them over and over again for over 3 months and asked them to hire a PROFESSIONAL. The stress I had to deal with and paying full price on rent when nothing was being fixed was terrible.
When she came to pick up the rent in January, I told the niece who speaks English that I wasn't going to pay for huge water bills because I already know what happens when there's a leak, the water bill can be 100% more than it normally is.
At one point in January she told me her aunt paid the water bill and she saw how high it was.
FINALLY the problems were fixed after the plumber had to come twice (he created a leak problem as well with one of the sinks and had to replace one toilet). That was 3 months and 10 days after I moved in. That's how long it took them.
I never once got any water bill and thought they were paying it because it was so high and obviously I am not responsible for water leak water bills.
In the last place I rented, the landlord sent me the water bill by WhatsApp.
On May 30th the water department came to shut off the water and I started getting upset asking why they didn't pay the bill.
She said she would call them, but I never heard back from her.
I went to the water department. The bills were going to an email address that was the aunt's.
They never forwarded them to me and they claim it's the wrong email address. Well that's not nmy problem. I never set this up.
I paid the minimum amount for the water bill based off of what the water bill was after the plumber fixed the problem. $277 x 5. I had to pay more because the minimum was $1550.
The water bill in total was over $4,000.
For 2 weeks they have been playing games. I didn't want to pay the rent because I wanted the money from that to pay off the rest of the water bill.
I kept saying that over and over again. Then she was all nice and I paid the rent this past Monday and then their lies and viciousness came out.
They are blaming me for everything, never once did they take responsibility for the fact that they never arranged for the water bills to come to me, but even if they had, I wouldn't pay $4,000. for $1,350 worth of water.
They wanted me to pay for the late fees and then argued that the $233 wasn't the total even though it was. I had asked the man at the water department. They were lying saying that amount was per month.
I went to the water department again this past Thursday and he confirmed the water fees were only that amount.
Then I realized I shouldn't have to pay for late fees on the total bill, only my amount and since I already paid more than I should have, that was covered.
I had someone contact her because of the mind games she is now playing and blaming me for everything and now they are lying BIG TIME saying there were no leaks, that I left some tap on and that's why the water bill was so high.
I am shocked.
I'm not a rich gringa. I'm very poor in fact. I work for free for a non profit. My budget to get this resolved is around $25 USD.
Please help me with this. I don't want to be homeless or have no water. I pay all of my bills. The electricity and gas always arrived and I paid them within 1-2 days.
I am already looking for another place to live, but I can't find a place this quickly.
I know they will steal my deposit and the water department is going to shut off the water. They wouldn't even let me pay the bill I just received or the late fees. My bill for May was $202 which means that the normal bill for my water usages is even lower than the month after the plumbing was fixed.
Then they lied and said I broke the contract by not paying.
No matter how many times I say I NEVER GOT THE BILL, they don't listen.
