POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
PARALEGAL

Western Kentucky Federal Community Defender, Inc., the community defender organization serving the Western District of Kentucky, is soliciting applications for the position of full time Paralegal. Federal Defenders are appointed by the United States District Court for the Western District of Kentucky to represent federal criminal defendants unable to afford counsel. The organization is not an agency of the federal government, and staff members are not federal employees.

Applicant must be a U.S. citizen and have experience performing the full range of paralegal services for staff attorneys. General duties will include legal research and writing; all aspects of case preparation and file management; drafting pleadings and correspondence; interviewing clients and witnesses; collecting, organizing, and evaluating evidence and exhibits; assisting with client contact; and providing litigation support. Applicant must be a self-starter, efficient, dependable, have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and have the ability to work well under pressure. Applicant must be fluent in English and Spanish and capable of translating documents; transcribing recordings; and interpreting for attorney-client meetings, witness interviews, telephone conversations, and jail visits. Computer literacy and experience with Word, CaseMap, Westlaw, Nexis, Powerpoint, Trial Director, and Summation is necessary. Some travel is required.
