Laravel 503 issue during maintenance

I am experiencing a problem when I call a Laravel 5.4 API from my angular 9 application which is running separately from Laravel. The issue is during options call, the exception 503 is thrown. However, during the GET request, no exception is thrown. Therefore my Angular 9 interceptor is unable to capture this error for processing.
