Translate Latvian Journals 1932-1948
Budget: $250 – $750 USD
I have three pocket-sized notebooks written in Latvian between 1932 and 1948. The ink is still clear and the handwriting sits in that middle ground where most words can be worked out with patience, but occasional flourishes need an experienced eye. I would like every entry—from the very first page to the last—to be rendered into natural, flowing English that captures intent, tone, and cultural context rather than sticking to a literal, word-by-word approach.
Because I can’t yet confirm whether one or several authors penned the diaries, please flag any obvious shifts in style or voice you notice along the way. If a word or phrase remains genuinely illegible, mark it unobtrusively and keep moving so the final document stays readable.
Deliverables
• A single editable file (Word or Google Doc) containing the full English text, organised by original notebook and date.
• Brief translator notes only where necessary—for unclear passages, archaic expressions, or suspected author changes.
If you have a background in pre-war Latvian language or experience decoding period cursive, you’ll probably find this project as fascinating as I do. I’m ready to scan and send high-resolution images the moment we agree to proceed and will happily answer any follow-up questions as you work.
