Indigenous Oudolf-Italian Garden Design
Budget: $250 – $750 USD
I have already blocked out the rough structure of my garden, but it needs a sharper eye to transform it into a fully indigenous scheme that balances Piet Oudolf’s naturalistic flow with classic Italian formality. The priorities are clear: refine the overall layout, choose the right plants, and engineer an efficient irrigation system.
Planting style
The backbone should echo Oudolf’s hallmark—drifts of perennial colour, ornamental grasses, and relaxed herbaceous borders—yet every species must be locally indigenous. Within that loose, painterly framework I still want recognisable Italian touches: clipped evergreen punctuation points, a few axial lines, and a modest water feature that feels at home in our climate.
Design refinement
My existing plan shows key paths, beds, and focal points, but proportions, planting rhythm, and sight-lines need adjustment so the garden reads coherently from every approach. I’m open to subtle tweaks or bold re-shaping as long as the indigenous palette and seasonal interest stay front-and-centre.

A zone-based, low-water system is essential—ideally drip and micro-spray—mapped to the revised layout and matched to each plant group’s requirements. A simple schematic with pipe diameters, emitter types, flow rates, and controller program will be required so installation is straightforward.
