Optimize DEFCON YouTube Reach
Budget: $250 – $750 USD
My small volunteer team runs The DEFCON Warning System, a long-standing independent monitor of global nuclear risk. The website, forum and X account all exist, yet the YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@DefconWarningSystem) is barely found outside our core followers. I want to change that, beginning with a complete overhaul of our video titles and descriptions.
What I need you to do
First, look over the channel and the niche—nuclear readiness, geopolitical flashpoints, early-warning analysis—and uncover the search terms, questions and trending topics people actually use when they look for information like ours. From that research you’ll craft compelling, keyword-rich titles, descriptions and tag sets that stay true to our factual, non-sensational tone while still encouraging clicks. I do not have a preset keyword list, so identifying and prioritising those terms is part of the job.
Tools and approach
Feel free to lean on TubeBuddy, vidIQ, Google Trends, Keyword Planner or your own favourite SEO suite. The important thing is that the data backs your recommendations and that the wording you provide fits YouTube’s best-practice character limits, hierarchy and call-to-action structure.
Deliverables (at minimum)
• A research report outlining primary and secondary keyword clusters you recommend we target, plus brief rationale for each.
• Rewritten titles, descriptions and tag suggestions for every video currently on the channel (there are fewer than 50).
• A simple guideline I can follow for future uploads so our optimisation remains consistent.
Acceptance
Your work will be considered complete when the new titles/descriptions are delivered in a spreadsheet or doc, clearly mapped to each video URL, and the keyword report explains how the choices were made.
To demonstrate skill and prove your ability, a portfolio will be required as well as some initial (generic) ideas must be presented. Fashion them so I can see you have skill but not so targeted that someone can steal them and you not get paid.
If this first phase shows measurable improvement in impressions and click-through rate, I’ll have follow-on work tying in the website, forum and X account. Let me know what information you need to get started and a realistic timeframe for the audit and rewrite.
