Ubuntu Server - PHP Mail Setting

I have a Joomla site and just migrated to a ubuntu server on a VM and my php mail is not working anymore, Joomla cannot send any emails out, the VM provider doesn't know how to fix. I tired to use a php file to send out an email, it doesn't work as well.
