Change Joomla Component Functionality

I'm requiring assistance in changing a custom Joomla component. Its a course booking form for a school. I think there is a problem that not every submitted form arrives in the database. To check this, i want to get a email copy when form is filled and sent. Then i can see the bookings in parallel and check if there is a database problem.

Just a very small job, but need changes quite frequently. Best would be to start right away. Pls tell me when you are able to fix my issue.
