Urgent data mining + click on function job (for web extension)

Hello, I am developing a web extension for a personal project. This extension has different functionalities that can be activated by click on different buttons. Two of these functionalities are based on data mining/web scraping (I do not know which is the appropriated terminology in this case): what I would like to happen is that when you like on the button, a function that datamines the text elements is created and and at the same time, the text elements which are collect are show on the screen (and animated); the second functionality would be the same but with img elements.

I would need these code to be done in js or jquery, because it's going to be as a said a webextension. I have parts of the code which I think should but my main problem is that it does not get actived on the click on.
So I think (is my code is correct) that I only need the link between the data mining and the click function to work.
