Power BI Embedded - javascript assistance

I have a simple JavaScript based app for Power BI embedded
I'm using a custom visual (toggle) within my Power BI report and need to use an event listener within the JS script to assign an action to it. For example, if the toggle is "on" switch to Theme2, if the toggle is "off" (default), switch to Theme1
The toggle (being a custom visual) is not recognised as a button, data or visual selection so I think the only way to assign an action to it is to listen for a change in it's filter state. I believe this must be done on page render (as opposed to page load), as we need to listen for a change in the filter state.
I'm looking for someone who is familiar with Power BI embedded and/or javascript who can help me with this.
