AI Note Generation Bug-Fixing & Finalizing

Job ID: 39773838

Budget: $250 – $750 AUD

ob Post: Expert Developer Needed to Fix & Finalize AI Note Generation Engine (Fixed-Price Project)
Project Overview:
We are developing an innovative web application for dentists designed to automate and streamline clinical note-writing. The core of our application is an "AI" engine that processes a user's selections against a database of text templates to dynamically assemble a comprehensive, formatted clinical note.

The initial development of this template-processing engine is incomplete and has significant bugs. After 16 hours of development, the feature is not functional, and some previous progress has been lost.

We are looking for a senior-level developer to step in, take ownership of this specific feature, and recode/debug it until it works perfectly. This is a focused, short-term contract with the goal of getting this single feature market-ready.

Your Mission: Fix the Template Processing AI
Your sole task is to resolve the issues in the current code to deliver a fully functional note generation engine. The current system is failing to correctly process our template syntax and user inputs.

Based on our latest testing, the deliverable must resolve the following specific issues:

1. Unresolved Core Feature Errors:

Multi-Select Options: Radio buttons must be replaced with checkboxes to allow for multi-select functionality as intended.

User Preferences: "Product Preferences," which are set in the dentist's dashboard, are not being correctly incorporated into the logic.

Placeholder Substitution UI: The radio button for selecting a "Default Option" fails to correctly display the text box that allows a user to enter text. This text is meant to replace the {dictation_placeholder} in the final note.

Conditional Logic: The template syntax [INCLUDE_IF_ANY] is not being processed correctly. Dependent sections are displayed even when the conditions are not met (e.g., "Systemic Complications" is set to "None," but related management sections are still incorrectly included).

2. Loss of Previous Functions (Regressions):

Note Formatting: The correct formatting (line breaks, indentation, etc.) of the generated clinical note is no longer being applied.

Conditional Content: The template syntax OPTION_IF is being ignored. The content associated with selected keywords is not being included in the final note.

Placeholder Substitution: Text entered by the user to replace a {dictation_placeholder} is not being substituted into the final text.

3. New Errors Introduced in the Last Build:

Random Keyword Insertion: Selected keywords are being randomly and incorrectly inserted next to section headings in the output.

What We Are Looking For:

A senior-level developer with proven, expert-level experience in JavaScript, text manipulation, and complex logic.

Demonstrable experience building or debugging rule-based text/document generation engines.

Someone who can read and understand a custom syntax (e.g., [INCLUDE_IF_ANY], OPTION_IF, {placeholder}) and translate it into clean, functional code.

A highly independent and reliable professional who can take ownership of a malfunctioning feature and see it through to completion.

Excellent debugging and problem-solving skills are a must.

Project Scope & Deliverables:

Scope: This contract is strictly limited to fixing the template processing and note generation feature. You will not be asked to work on any other part of the application.

Deliverable: Clean, well-commented, and fully functional code that resolves all of the issues listed above. The final feature should correctly process our templates and generate accurate, well-formatted clinical notes based on user selections.

Payment:
This is a fixed-price project. We are looking for a result, not hours. Please submit your fixed-price bid to deliver the fully functional feature as described. The payment will be released in full upon successful testing and verification that all listed issues have been resolved.

How to Apply:
To be considered, please provide the following in your application:

A brief summary of your experience with similar text-processing or rule-engine projects.

Links to your portfolio or specific examples of past work that demonstrate your expertise in this area.

Your initial thoughts on how you would approach debugging and fixing the described issues.

Your fixed-price bid for the successful completion of this project.

We look forward to working with a talented developer to get this exciting feature across the finish line.

TOP TEN SKILLS NEEDED:
Top 10 Key Skills for the Freelancer
Expert JavaScript Proficiency

Why it's needed: The entire task is a client-side logic problem. The freelancer must have a deep understanding of modern JavaScript to manipulate data, manage application state, and interact with the DOM efficiently and without errors.

Advanced String Manipulation & Regular Expressions (RegEx)

Why it's needed: The core of the project involves parsing custom syntax like {dictation_placeholder}, [INCLUDE_IF_ANY], and OPTION_IF. A mastery of string manipulation and RegEx is essential to reliably find, replace, and conditionally include text based on these rules.

Rule Engine & Custom Parser Development

Why it's needed: The previous developer failed to implement the conditional logic ([INCLUDE_IF_ANY]). The freelancer needs the ability to think algorithmically and build a small, efficient "engine" that can read your custom template rules and correctly apply them to the output.

Meticulous Debugging & Code Auditing

Why it's needed: The freelancer isn't starting from scratch; they are stepping into a broken codebase. They must be skilled at reading someone else's code, identifying logical flaws and regressions, and systematically fixing them without introducing new bugs.

Front-End UI Logic (HTML/DOM Manipulation)

Why it's needed: The bugs related to checkboxes, radio buttons, and showing/hiding text boxes are UI logic failures. The freelancer must be able to write JavaScript that correctly controls the visibility and state of HTML form elements based on user interaction.

Data Integration & State Management

Why it's needed: The failure to incorporate "Product Preferences" shows a weakness in data integration. The freelancer must be able to fetch data from another part of the application (like a user's settings) and use that data to make decisions within the note generation logic.

Attention to Detail

Why it's needed: The list of bugs includes issues with formatting, random keyword insertions, and incorrect substitutions. This points to a lack of precision. The new freelancer must be meticulous, ensuring the final output is pixel-perfect and formatted exactly as required.

Problem-Solving & Algorithmic Thinking

Why it's needed: This task requires more than just coding; it requires architecting a solution. The freelancer needs to be able to break down the complex set of rules into a clear, logical sequence of steps that the code can execute reliably every time.

Independent Ownership & Accountability

Why it's needed: You are hiring them to solve a specific problem on a fixed-fee basis. They need to be a self-starter who can take full ownership of this feature, work independently, and be accountable for delivering a fully working solution.

Testing & Quality Assurance (QA) Mindset

Why it's needed: The fact that previous functions were lost (regressions) indicates a lack of testing. The ideal candidate will have a personal process for testing their own code thoroughly, ensuring that all requirements are met and no new bugs are introduced.
